How to install Slack on Lubuntu


Using slack you can communicate with your team member at work, slack is team collaboration tool that can be use to communicate between team members privately. By default slack is available on the web via slack.com, but there is also desktop app for slack on lubuntu/ubuntu.

Using the slack desktop app, you no longer need to open the web browser anytime you want to use slack service. So if you are using slack a lot, it's a good idea to install the desktop app, to make your life easier.

Installing slack desktop app on ubuntu is not difficult, even though currently slack is not part of lubuntu/ubuntu repository, but that's okay, we still can install slack desktop on our lubuntu/ubuntu.

Step by step how to install slack desktop app on lubuntu.
  • open slack download page, choose the 64 bit ubuntu and hit the download button.
  • after the download is finish, open command line and go to where the 'slack-desktop' debian package is located, let's say it's on 'Downloads' folder inside your home directory, then you do this: 
  • cd ~/Downloads
  • let's say the name of the debian package is 'slack-desktop-2.4.2-amd64.deb' then you run this to install it:
  • sudo dpkg -i slack-desktop-2.4.2-amd64.deb
  • once installed, you can open slack from lubuntu start menu > Internet > Slack.
