How to convert MP4, FLV to MP3 on Lubuntu

If you have a lot of music video files such as in MP4 or FLV format, why not convert it into MP3, so that you can put on your smartphone in smaller size and more appropriate format.

To convert MP4 or FLV into MP3 on lubuntu, you can use program called 'SoundConverter', it's a GNOME-powered sound conversion.

Soundconverter is a simple tool for converting sound files to other formats. It can work from the command line, but is really meant for interactive use in the GNOME environment.

Don't worry even though lubuntu is not using GNOME as the desktop environment, soundconverter still can work well on lubuntu, no problem.

Alright to install soundconverter, simply open terminal/console/command line (press CTRL + ALT + T) and then run this command:

sudo apt-get install soundconverter

Take a look at this video:

After soundconverter is installed on your computer, you can find it from lubuntu start menu > Sound & video > Sound Converter.

Note that soundconverter requires MP3 encoding library in order to convert into MP3 format, so you need to install package called 'gstreamer plugin ugly', read my previous blog post for more info.

Click on '+ Add File' button to start adding movie files that you want to convert into MP3, and then click on 'Preferences', see the 'Type of result?' section, choose MP3 as the format, click 'Convert' to start the conversion.

Soundconverter is not only can convert into MP3 but also can convert into other audio format such as Ogg vorbis (.ogg), FLAC Lossless (.flac), and MS wave (.wav).
